It is the joy of being deeply involved in the Australian community that attracts so many doctors from all over the world here. There is no better way of learning about life and society in Australia than by working in the community as a General Practitioner (GP). GPs from some overseas locations will have restrictions on where they can work and will need to liaise with an Ochre Recruitment consultant.

GP’s make up about 40 to 50 percent of the medical workforce in Australia and carry out the following functions: first contact, diagnosis, management, continuity of care, health promotion, prevention and screening. GPs act as gatekeepers, as access to diagnostic testing,   and tertiary hospital services often require a GP referral letter. Many private specialists only see patients referred by a GP.

In Australia, many GPs chose to work in groups of 2 to 10 doctors and these are often referred to as practices or medical centres. Most medical centres employ practice nurses and practice managers. Practice nurses play an important role, providing health advice and services such as immunisation, screening, diet, diabetes and asthma care. Other allied health staff such as psychologists, social workers, physiotherapists may work in, or be associated with GP medical centres.

Ochre Recruitment has developed excellent relationships with practices all over Australia and can offer GPs the widest choice of positions available. With our experience and knowledge of general practice recruitment in Australia we’ll work with you to find you the perfect role to suit your lifestyle and family situation.

Due to recent changes at the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the ACRRM (Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine) the following pathways/categories are now available for GP’s, if you hold any qualifications detailed in the following categories please contact our office to speak to one of our consultants for further advice.
